Frogs lay Spawn

Frogs lay spawn in spring

Frogs find a mate and then the female lays frogspawn in a pond. The frogspawn is a mass of eggs which hatch out into tadpoles. The black specks in the frogspawn are the tadpoles which feed on the jelly round them.

Once hatched the tadpoles feed on vegetation in the pond and breathe through gills.

Eventually the tadpoles grow legs and climb out of the pond as froglets.
