Write and Order Five-Digit Numbers

This activity provides a good test of children's understanding of place value. They have lots of scope to make five-digit numbers on an abacus, and then write these as numerals. The ordering process is useful to see whether they recognise the relative value of each digit when dealing with larger numbers.
