Learning to Find Food and Stay Safe
For a few weeks after fledging, the parents and their chicks stay together as a group. The parents show the young birds how to keep safe from predators and how to find food for themselves.
When the parents think the young birds can look after themselves, they fly away, leaving them to fend for themselves.
