Make an Easter Basket Card
Try making this delightful Easter card by weaving strips of brown paper. The backs of used envelopes work well and are a great way to recycle. There is no template because you can adjust the basket to suit the size of your card.
You will need
- Two used brown envelopes with different textures
- A sheet of white paper
- A piece of card
- Scraps of coloured paper and foil sweet wrappers
- A strip of green paper
- Glue
- Scissors
What you do
- Cut plenty of brown paper strips about 1.5–2cm wide. They do not need to be perfectly straight or all the same width—a little variation makes the basket look more natural.

Stick the end of one strip to a piece of plain white paper that is a few
centimetres larger than your finished basket. Add more strips side by side,
leaving their other ends loose.
- Take another strip, add a little glue to one end and weave it over and under the strips lined up on the paper.
- Place the next strip close to the previous one and weave in the opposite pattern: under where the first went over and over where it went under. Continue until you have a woven block, then glue down any loose ends.
- Draw a basket shape on the woven paper and cut it out. Check that every end is secure. Once dry, decide where it will sit on the card, but do not stick it down yet.
- Cut plenty of miniature egg shapes from coloured paper. Add patterns to plain eggs, mix different colours or use foil sweet wrappers for a shimmering effect.
- Stick the eggs to the card, overlapping them so that the basket will look full. You could leave a couple to place on the grass.
- Glue the basket over the lower part of the eggs. Add strips of green paper for grass and any leftover eggs as finishing touches.
- Add your Easter message and leave the card to dry before writing inside.
